PREVENTING HEATSTROKE in DOGS
Summer is here, and with it, high temperatures. To help prevent heatstroke, NEVER leave your dog in the car on a warm day (even with the windows open), avoid vigorous outdoor exercise on warm days, keep your dog in the shade if he has to be outside, and make sure your dog has plenty of cool, fresh water to drink.

Some symptoms of heatstroke to watch out for:
  • vigorous panting
  • dark red gums and/or dry gums and mouth
  • disorientation or dizziness
  • loss of consciousness

If you suspect heatstroke, first aid includes:
  • place cool (NOT icy cold), wet cloths on your dog, especially on the head and footpads
  • offer your dog cool water to drink
  • call or visit your vet
